The Senior Outreach Service was established in 2003 to deliver free support and advocacy to Jewish Seniors (65+) living at home or in care in Greater Auckland.

Comprehensive Support for Jewish Seniors and Their Families

Our service is designed to walk alongside Jewish seniors and their families with warmth, dignity, and compassion as they navigate the challenges of aging. We offer tailored support that addresses practical needs, emotional well-being, and spiritual connection—ensuring our elders remain valued, connected, and cared for within the community.

Companionship and Connection
We provide regular companionship through friendly telephone calls and personal visits, helping to alleviate loneliness and maintain a sense of connection and inclusion. Our Outreach workers develop trusted relationships, offering a listening ear, emotional support, and meaningful conversation.

Practical Assistance
We assist with everyday needs that may become more challenging over time. This includes help with grocery shopping, attending medical appointments, managing transport, and coordinating home services. Our team also offers information on the engagement process with government agencies and health care providers to ensure access to entitlements and essential services.

Responding to Changing Circumstances
When a senior’s circumstances shift—whether due to health changes, loss of a spouse, or financial difficulty—we provide responsive, respectful support. We help navigate these transitions, offering practical solutions and emotional reassurance at every step.

Transition to Rest Home or Aged Care Living
We support both seniors and their families through the often complex and emotional process of moving into rest home or aged care. From helping explore options to arranging assessments and easing the emotional impact of change, we ensure the transition is handled with care and sensitivity.

Mediation and Advocacy
At times of tension or uncertainty, we are available to mediate between family members or services when requested. Our goal is to ensure seniors’ voices are heard and their needs are at the center of any decisions being made.

Community and Spiritual Engagement
We help facilitate visits from Rabbis or representatives of Jewish agencies, ensuring that cultural and religious needs are met and respected. We also offer opportunities for social engagement through community gatherings, and cultural events—nurturing a sense of belonging and joy.

Linking to Wider Support Networks
Our service can support you to access organizations that provide financial, and practical assistance. We connect seniors to the appropriate resources, ensuring a safety net of care and advocacy is always available.
